About Me
My name is Pavel Varlakov, nice to meet you!
I’ve been passionate about photography for a long time — like many, I started by taking everything in sight with a simple point-and-shoot camera. Back then, it was more about curiosity and capturing moments than a conscious profession. But that’s where I began learning about framing and paying attention to details. In 2016, I took my first commercial photoshoot in Saint Petersburg — and from that moment, photography became more than just a hobby.
Over the years, I experimented with different genres, worked extensively with people and business projects. During this time, I photographed numerous corporate events, and gradually moved more into studio photography.
A separate stage of my journey was working in a bar while continuing photography. There, I started shooting content for menus and drinks. This experience gave me a crucial eye for detail and an understanding of how to make a shot truly “appealing” — not just beautiful, but evocative and tempting.
Black-and-white portrait photography holds a special place in my work. For me, it’s not about the absence of color, but about character, light, emotion, and the honesty of the frame. In these shoots, I focus on depth and mood rather than poses.
I believe there is no limit to mastery — especially in photography. That’s why I constantly develop my skills, deepen my knowledge of lighting, and pay close attention to retouching and final image details. My goal is for every shot to be more than captured; it must be finished and complete. Today, photography for me is not just a set of techniques or lucky shots. It’s the ability to see, feel the task, and tell a story in a single frame.
Awards & Recognition
My work has been recognized on international professional platforms.
I have participated in 35AWARDS, one of the most prestigious photography competitions for professionals.
Over the years, my photographs have been honored with certificates in the following categories:
- Winter Portrait

- Food Photography
For me, participating in and receiving awards in such competitions is not the goal itself, but a confirmation of my skill level and continuous effort to maintain high-quality imagery.
